KCVG Workers Organize And Win Seasonal Conversion to Permanent Status (With Benefits) for Hundreds of Workers!

At the KCVG air cargo hub in northern Kentucky, many seasonal workers hired before Peak season 2023 had not been converted to permanent employees after more than half a year. They worked the same job for less pay, no insurance benefits, and no vacation accrual.

In early May, 13 of us went to HR to demand conversion to blue badge (permanent) status - with equal pay, access to health insurance, and vacation accrual. When Amazon failed to convert, we escalated.

Workers met after work in the parking lot and made an organizing plan. A couple days later, we handed out stickers that said “convert seasonals now.” On one night shift alone, 70% of workers in the Fingers area of the Sort building wore stickers.

Then on June 14, an even bigger group of us went back to HR - Senior Ops came out to talk. He was very nervous seeing our big group!

We made our demand very clear: Management must convert all seasonal workers to permanent status.

A few weeks after the actions, Amazon started converting hundreds of KCVG workers from seasonal to permanent. They felt the pressure from our actions and solidarity, and we won benefits for ourselves and hundreds of our coworkers.
