Biography
Boxi Wu is a visiting scholar at ASU’s School of Social Transformation and Center for Work and Democracy. She is a doctoral researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford and a Research Fellow at the AI Now Institute. Boxi’s research draws from feminist and geopolitical thought to investigate the localized political and cultural transformations of AI infrastructure’s global supply chain.
Boxi regularly contributes to policy research on the political economy of AI infrastructure, most recently for the OECD, FES Future of Work, the Oxford Martin School and T20 Brazil. In previous research, she has published on the ethics and governance of AI and digital infrastructure in Review of International Political Economy, Big Data & Society, Philosophy & Technology, ACM Fairness, Accountability & Transparency and AAAI/ACM AI, Ethics & Society. Boxi’s research and expert insights have been featured in Jacobin, Time Magazine, The Economist, and The New York Times.
Prior to returning to academia, Boxi worked in AI ethics at Google DeepMind where she specialized on the ethical and societal impacts of LLMs. Boxi holds an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the University of Oxford, an MA in Urban Planning from the University of Melbourne and a BA in Political Science and International relations from the University of Western Australia.
