Biography

Marcia Howard is an English teacher at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Vice President of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers, and a community activist in George Floyd Square, as the community around the site where Floyd was murdered is now known. Ms. Howard has long excelled as a high school teacher and has always worked to create opportunities for her students, including a self-funded grant program to help her best students attend an HBCU. When Floyd was murdered steps from her house on Southside Minneapolis, she was pulled into organizing to defend her community and secure a modicum of justice from the City. She was recently elected to serve as the Vice President of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers and helped lead her union on a successful strike to secure better wages and conditions for school paraprofessionals. Howard is a veteran who served in the Marine Corps.
